Middle School football is finally here as the ATMS Bulldogs opened the season at home against the NAMS Comets.

NAMS won the coin toss but elected to defer the ball until the second half. Jacob Hodges fielded the kickoff and returned it to about the forty-yard line for the Bulldogs. ATMS needed just one play to pick up a touchdown as Dominic Payne ran forty yards in for the score. Payne added two more points moments later on a two-point conversion to put the Bulldogs in front 8-0. Amare Godwin made a short return for the Comets on the ensuing kickoff and that is where their offense stalled. The Comets could not move the ball for a first down against the Bulldogs defense and were forced to punt on fourth down. Payne picked up fifteen yards on the punt return for the Bulldogs before punching one in for six moments later. He scored on a thirty-five-yard run and Hodges tacked on two more points with the two-point conversion. The Comets tried again to get their offense going, but a fumble turned the ball over. Casey Holmes made the fumble recovery to give the Bulldogs the ball at the end of the first quarter. After one quarter of play, ATMS led 16-0.

The Bulldogs wasted no time finding the end zone at the start of the second quarter. Riley Strickland found Brandon Campbell for a twenty-two yard touchdown. ATMS tried once more for the two-point conversion, but this time the NAMS defense stopped them in the tracks. Tysean Goldston had a short return for the Comets on the next kick return and they moved the ball a short way up the field on a run by Kai Matthews. NAMS picked up a few more yards, but could not get the first down as they turned the ball over. The Comets’ defense stepped up on the Bulldogs next offensive possession holding them and forcing them to punt on fourth and seventeen. Matthews picked up thirty-five yards on the punt return before turning the ball over on downs moments later. ATMS worked the ball down the field before Strickland connected with  Payne for another Bulldogs touchdown. The two point conversion attempt by the Bulldogs was no good. NAMS would field the next kick off, but could not get much done before time expired. At the half, ATMS led NAMS 28-0.

ATMS continued to move the ball down the field in the second half as they scored two more touchdowns. Payne scored both touchdowns for the Bulldogs bringing his total to five touchdowns on the day.
