It was a perfect night for soccer as the Asheboro Blue Comets hosted the Reagan Raiders on Wednesday. Asheboro came into the game 0-0-2 and was looking for their first win of the season.

Defenses battled during the first few minutes of the game until the Raiders broke the 0-0 tie with their first goal of the night. The Raiders slipped the ball passed Asheboro’s keeper to take a 1-0 lead. The Blue Comet’s defense stepped up and held the Raiders scoreless for the rest of the half. Asheboro tied the game at one off a header from Cristian Jaimes at the 27:44 mark. Ten minutes later, the Blue Comets took their lead on a goal from Jose Cortes. The ball moved back and forth across the field for the next seventeen minutes with neither team able to score. At the half, Asheboro led 2-1.

Things got a little chippy in the second half of play forcing the referees to call the game tightly. Eighteen minutes into the half the Blue Comets pushed their lead to two on a deep shot from Jaimes. The rest of the half would be a scoreless one with both defenses stepping up. The Blue Comets got the win 3-1 for their first win of the season.
