Bulldogs sweep Timberwolves at home

Middle School basketball came to ATMS on Monday as the Bulldogs hosted the Uwharrie Timberwolves in a boys and girls doubleheader.

The boys opened the evening with the Bulldogs putting on a dominant performance in their 66-20 win. ATMS took an early 4-0 lead before the Timberwolves picked up their first point at the free-throw line. The Bulldogs put together a 6-0 run that was ended with a bucket and free throw from the Timberwolves. From there ATMS closed out the first quarter with a 7-0 run for a 17-4 lead. The second quarter of play was all ATMS as they outscored the Timberwolves 16-6 for a 22-10 halftime lead.

Uwharrie Ridge tried to battle back in the second half, but the Bulldogs maintained their pressure and squashed any chance of a comeback. ATMS opened the third quarter with a 6-1 run before closing out the quarter with a 13-0 run. The Timberwolves had their best quarter of the night in the fourth quarter scoring seven points including the only three of the game from either team. The Bulldogs continued their strong play to cruise to the victory.

Dominic Payne led the Bulldogs with 20 points, while Jason Brown added eight points. Trace Moffit, Brandon Campbell, Evan Stepp, and Adrian Goodwin each finished with six points for the Bulldogs. Reece Beane led the Timberwolves with five points and Cameron Davis netted three.

Closing out the evening were the ladies as the Lady Bulldogs posted a 48-6 win over the Lady Timberwolves. ATMS got things done on both ends of the floor in the first quarter holding Uwharrie Ridge scoreless the entire quarter. The Bulldogs led 9-0 heading into the second quarter. They continued their run at the beginning of the quarter, but Uwharrie Ridge got on the board with back to back buckets. The Bulldogs closed out the quarter with a 9-0 run for a 22-4 halftime lead.

The third quarter saw the Bulldogs open with a 6-0 run before the Timberwolves knocked down a bucket to stop the run. It would be ATMS the rest of the way as they scored 15 straight for a 41-6 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Bulldogs opened the fourth quarter with their second three of the night to get a running clock that would end the game moments later with the Bulldogs taking the win.

Bri Hill paced the Lady Bulldogs with 17 points, while Kennedi Routh notched 11. Kennedy Jackson netted eight and Maddie Nichols added seven. Kenzie led the Timberwolves with four points.
