Eagles roll to win over South Stanly

The Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles boys’ soccer team hosted the South Stanly Rowdy Rebel Bulls on Monday afternoon. Uwharrie Charter entered the game 1-0 on the season.

Uwharrie Charter came out ready to play on Monday as they quickly took a one-goal lead over South Stanly. Sophomore Brock Dunlap sent the ball into the back of the net to put the Eagles on the board. South Stanly stepped up their defense, but the Eagles still found ways around them. Brady Mowers scored with one defender on him to give Uwharrie Charter a 2-0 lead. The rest of the first half was a defensive battle as neither team could score. Uwharrie Charter had several great shot attempts late in the first half, but they were either caught by the South Stanly keeper or sailed over the top of the goal. At the half, Uwharrie Charter led 2-0.

The second half of play was a completely different story from the first. South Stanly got the on the board early in the second half, but the Eagles soon took over. Uwharrie Charter found an offensive rhythm scoring six goals. Mowers scored his second goal of the afternoon, while Alex Hodges and Angel Vanegas each scored two goals apiece. Lucas Bice finished with one goal on the afternoon. The Eagles gave up one more goal to South Stanly before taking the 8-2 win.

Joseph Phetmixay led the Eagles with three assists, while Mowers, Hodges, Vanegas, and Isaiah Spinks each dished out one.
