Providence Grove High School in 2008-2009
The 2008-2009 school year was the first to take place at Providence Grove High School. The school was built to help ease some of the overcrowding at Randleman and Eastern Randolph. The Patriots as they were to be called were starting over with new people and some new teachers. Rick Dawes made the move from Randleman to Providence Grove to lead the Patriots in their first year. Making up the rest of the new administration were Dan Goble and Michelle Ford. Some of the staff at PG also made the move from Randleman and Eastern Randolph. Obviously this was going to be a year of firsts for the Patriots and it all started with the first homecoming court in school history. Senior Whitney Parris took home the honor of Homecoming Queen. Her court included Gabby Poe (first runner-up), Jennifer Lowman (second runner-up), Hannah Armfield (junior attendant), Casey Haithcox (sophomore attendant), and Paris Alston (freshman attendant). The Patriots fared pretty well in their athletic debut as several teams finished with winning records. The football team won their very first game of the season over arch-rival Randleman 20 to 14. They would end up finishing the season 5-6. The men’s basketball team finished their season 15-7, while the Lady Patriots finished 10-12.
