Lady Eagles blowout South Davidson

The Uwharrie Charter Lady Eagles returned to action on Tuesday as they hosted the South Davidson Wildcats. Uwharrie Charter entered the game 4-2 in conference play and 8-5 overall on the season.

Uwharrie Charter came out strong scoring the first five points of the night. Gabi Greene put the Eagles on the board with a bucket down low before Natalie Beeson drilled her first three of the night. After a bucket from the Wildcats, Beeson scored on a drive giving the Eagles a 7-2 lead. South Davidson cut the lead to three before Beeson drained another three extending the Eagles’ lead to six. Greene scored to push the lead to eight. The Wildcats went one for two at the line and drained a three to trim the lead to four late in the quarter. Madi Duvall picked up three points the old-fashioned way and Mia Leonard scored on a runner giving the Eagles a 17-8 lead. The Eagles had the ball with 3.3 seconds left and Leonard drained a half-court shot at the buzzer to give UCA a 20-8 at the end of the first quarter.

South Davidson opened the second quarter with a three to cut the lead to nine before a bucket from Kristen Jensen pushed the lead back into double-figures for the Eagles. The Wildcats picked up another bucket, but the Eagles answered with a pair of free throws from Jensen and a bucket down low from Madi Duvall. After a bucket from the Wildcats, Uwharrie Charter went on a 6-0 run that included another three from Beeson to take a 32-15 lead. A free-throw and a bucket later, the Wildcats had the lead cut down to fourteen, but the Eagles had an answer for every shot. By the end of the second quarter, Uwharrie Charter held a 37-22 lead over the Wildcats.

The Lady Wildcats drained a three to start the third quarter before the Lady Eagles answered with a 10-0 run for a 47-25 lead. South Davidson ended the run with another three, but the Eagles responded with back to back buckets from Ashara Spruill and Bre Brooks. A pair of free throws from the Wildcats cut the lead to twenty-one late in the quarter, but the Eagles closed out the quarter with a bucket for a 53-30 lead.

After a slow start by both teams, Uwharrie Charter opened the final quarter with a bucket before the Lady Wildcats scored four straight points. A free-throw from Savannah Surratt and a bucket from Kyla Vann extended the Eagles’ lead to 58-34 midway through the quarter. South Davidson knocked down a three, but the Eagles answered with a three from Leonard. The Lady Wildcats would outscore the Eagles 6-1 down the stretch, but it was not enough to overcome the Eagles’ commanding lead. Uwharrie Charter dominated their way to a 62-43 win over South Davidson.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Natalie Beeson with 19 points. Mia Leonard finished with nine points, while Bre Brooks, Gabi Greene, and Kristen Jensen each chipped in six points.
