As fall temperatures swept through the area this week, teams across the county continued to put in the work as they get closer to the postseason. One team picked up a big win over a conference opponent to even their conference record and one player had a lot to do with it. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Providence Grove’s, Caleb Rogers.

Rogers, a sophomore running back, helped the Patriots to a huge win over PAC-7 Conference opponent the Wheatmore Warriors on Friday. Although he never scored a touchdown in Friday’s 42-7 win, he ran the ball exceptionally well to set up scoring opportunities for others. He finished with 137 rushing yards on 24 carries, while also adding 52 receiving yards on two receptions. His ability to run the ball moved the Patriots down the field against a tough Wheatmore defense. He also helped get the job done on defense with three solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and a blocked field goal. This was Rogers’ third game with 100+ rushing yards and his best game of the season. So far this season, he as picked up 641 rushing yards, 222 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns.

In two seasons on varsity, Rogers has accumulated 1,181 rushing yards, 253 receiving yards, 13 touchdowns, 1,434 all-purpose yards, and 20 tackles. He has helped the Patriots to a 2-2 conference start and a 6-3 overall record with two games left in the regular season. The Patriots will need another performance on Friday as they face High Point Andrews at home next week before closing out the regular season on the road at Jordan-Matthews. Rogers can only get better as the season continues and Patriot fans have a lot to look forward to the next two seasons.

Congratulations to Caleb Rogers on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
