Consistency is something that all coaches dream of and strive for throughout the season. A single consistent player can change the makeup of an entire team and make things easier for other players. One Randolph County student-athlete has been consistent all season long and has her team in a great sport as the regular season winds down. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Asheboro’s, Diamond McDowell.

McDowell, a junior forward, has helped lead the Asheboro Lady Blue Comets to a 9-2 Mid-Piedmont Conference start and a 17-5 overall record. She has scored in double figures in every game this season with her highest point total coming back in January when she scored 28 points against Union Pines. In the Blue Comets’ lone game this week against Williams High School she finished with 19 points, 14 rebounds, three blocks, two assists, and one steal as the Comets earned a 70-65 win. The 19 points and 14 rebounds were good enough for her seventeenth double-double of the season. She is averaging a double-double for the season with 20.4 points and 13.0 rebounds per game. She also has season averages of 2.4 steals, 2.3 blocks, and 1.9 assists per game.

In three seasons on varsity, McDowell is averaging 13.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.4 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game. She has scored a total of 1,041 points and pulled down 668 rebounds in three seasons, while also adding 147 steals, 109 assists, and 79 blocks.

Congratulations to Diamond McDowell on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
