Teams were back in action after the holiday break and several athletes picked up where they left off before the break. One student-athlete has had a strong start to the new year leading his team to a 2-1 finish on the week. This athlete is a go-to guy who always steps up when his team needs him to. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Randleman’s, Dominick Poole.

Poole, a senior guard, has been a go-to scoring option for the Tigers the past few seasons. This year he has stepped up his game scoring in double figures in all but two games while leading the Tigers a 10-2 start on the season. On Tuesday, he finished with ten points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a 48-45 win over High Point Andrews. One night later he picked up 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks, and a steal in a three-point loss to Ledford. The Tigers closed the week with a 48-30 win over Trinity. Last week, Poole earned MVP honors after leading the Tigers to the Courier-Tribune Christmas Invitational title. He finished with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block in the championship game.

On the season, Poole is averaging 12.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. He is one of several senior leaders on this Tigers’ team and his leadership has been key for them this season. Poole will need to maintain his level of play as the Tigers move further into the conference season and look to make a strong run in the postseason.

Congratulations to Dominick Poole on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
