Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” John Cernava

With only a handful of games this week, the selection for the athlete of the week was an easy one. One player stood out about the rest after leading his team to victory and breaking a school record in the process. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Asheboro’s, John Cernava.

Cernava, a senior, has helped the Blue Comets’ varsity lacrosse team to a 3-4 conference record and a 6-6 overall record so far this season. He is a force on the offensive end and keeps defenders on their toes with his quickness. This past week he led the Comets to a 9-8 win over the Southeast Guilford Falcons with four goals. His four goals in the win gave him a total of 73 goals in his career which broke the Blue Comets’ all-time career goals record. Cernava’s play the rest of the season will be key as the Blue Comets close out the regular season and look to the postseason.

Congratulations to John Cernava on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
