Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Kaleb Cheek

It only takes one game for a season to turn around and sometimes it only takes one player to spark the turn around. After struggling in the first two games of the season, one team found new life thanks in large part to one player. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Asheboro’s, Kaleb Cheek.

Cheek, a running back for the Comets, had a breakout game on Friday to lead Asheboro to their first win of the season. The Blue Comets struggled with their running game during the first two games, but everything clicked on Friday thanks to a big night from Cheek. He picked up 236 yards on the ground while adding three touchdowns. One touchdown came on a 61-yard run, while another was a short 13-yard run. His third touchdown came on a 17-yard pass from Khyland Hadley-Lindsay. Cheek did not just get it done on offense, but he was a key part of the defensive effort as well.

Friday’s win could be the turning point for the Blue Comets to have a great season. If Cheek can continue to run the ball the same way he did on Friday, then Asheboro has a great chance of finishing the season at or near the top of the conference standings.

Congratulations to Kaleb Cheek on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
