With the basketball regular season slowly beginning to wind down, teams across the county are trying to pad their record in hopes of earning a spot in the state playoffs. This week, one team got one step closer with a pair of wins against conference opponents and one player was a big reason why. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Providence Grove’s, Malea Garrison.

Garrison, a sophomore, led the Lady Patriots to wins over Jordan-Matthews and Eastern Randolph this week. She stuffed the stat sheet in Tuesday’s 51-37 win over the Jets as he finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. She was crucial during the second half as the Patriots overcame a slow start to put the Jets away. After a couple days of rest, Garrison led the Patriots to a 66-48 win over rival Eastern Randolph on the road. She found creative ways to score all night and finished with 25 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Garrison is a tremendous team player and it showed on Friday as the Patriots moved into second place in the conference with their win over the Wildcats.

She has had a strong season for the Lady Patriots and they will need her to keep it as they move towards the postseason. So far, she is averaging 16.6 points per game and 8.8 rebounds in just 16 games. Her play and leadership on the floor could very well be the difference maker for the Patriots as they head into the final stretch of the season.

Congratulations to Malea Garrison on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
