Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” Ryan Smith

Closing out the regular season can be tough, but when veteran players step up things get a little easier. One team closed out the regular season strong this week and it was due in large part to one of their seniors. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week” is Wheatmore’s, Ryan Smith.

Smith, a senior midfielder, has had a strong season for the Warriors and hs led them to a 10-1 PAC-7 conference finish and a 13-3 overall finish to the regular season. This past week he led the Warriors to a 2-1 finish on the week including a big win on Senior Night. On Monday, he scored four goals (all in the first half) to give the Warriors a 6-1 win over Providence Grove on Senior Night. Two nights later against Eastern Randolph, he helped the Warriors to a 4-2 win to secure the PAC-7 Conference Championship. Smith did not score in the game against ER, but he contributed in other areas that do not show up in a stat sheet. The final game of the week was a 4-3 loss on the road at Jordan-Matthews, but Smith finished with two goals.

During his senior season, Smith has scored in all but four games for a total of 20 goals this season. In the past two seasons, he has a total of 38 goals and 11 assists. The Warriors will need Smith to continue to be aggressive as they move into the postseason. If he can continue his level of play then Warriors have a chance of making a deep run in the playoffs.

Congratulations to Ryan Smith on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athlete of the Week!”
