It has been a long season and despite a couple of setbacks one Randolph County teams ahs put themselves in a position to do something great. This group has played together as a team and has been a dominant force all season. This week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week” are the Randleman Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers had an impressive week this week by picking three straight wins in the first three rounds of the NCHSAA 2A State Basketball Playoffs. Randleman stumbled last weekend when they fell to High Point Andrews in the PAC-7 conference tournament finals, but the Tigers turned things around this week. The Lady Tigers dominated their way to 42-23 win over North Johnston in the first round of plays before overcoming Hertford County 46-34 in round two. Randleman met back up with conference foe High Point Andrews in round three and came away with a 65-48 win to advance to the fourth round of play. This will be the first time in several years that the Lady Tigers have advanced this far and it is all thanks to their tough play throughout the season.

Randleman opened the season with a strong eight-game winning streak before falling to Southwestern Randolph in the county Christmas tournament finals. Following that loss, the Lady Tigers won thirteen straight games before their streak was snapped in the conference tournament finals. The Tigers have gotten contributions from every position on the floor which has been crucial in their strong season. Freshman Gracyn Hall has made a huge impact in her first season with the Tigers giving them someone in the post who to go up strong and score. Seniors Taylor Gantt and Emma Marlow have been key leaders on the floor, while also scoring big buckets when the Tigers needed it. Veronica Marlow, Hannah Hinshaw, and Elizabeth York have also been key contributors for the Tigers and all three never back down for a chance to chase after a loose ball.

The Tigers’ postseason future is looking bright and if they can get the win on Tuesday then they will be headed to the state semifinals. This group of girls is one of the best teams in recent years and they have a chance to do something special. Their hard work, dedication, and teamwork are the crucial pieces that can get them to the state finals.

Congratulations to the Randleman Lady Tigers on being named this week’s Mid-State Toyota “Athletes of the Week!”
