SAMS shuts out SWRMS in semifinals

Thursday night the Lady Comets of SAMS hosted the Lady Cougars of SWRMS in the semifinals of the middle school girls’ soccer tournament. 

Leading things off were the Cougars as they took the first touch on the ball. SAMS allowed SWRMS to take the first attempt at the goal, but the Comets goalie was there to make the save. Getting a touch on the ball was the Comets as they took their first attempt but it was saved. SAMS continued stepping to the ball as they controlled the ball and took it downfield. SWRMS kept pushing as they got control and took another attempt at the goal but came up short. Both teams hustled towards the end of the first half as they finished scoreless. 

SAMS opened the second half with the first touch and quickly put the ball into scoring position. SWRMS’ goalie kept the game alive as she saved the ball. The Cougars tried to break the tie early in the half, but their shot was not good. Midway through the second quarter, a handball was called on the Cougars inside the box giving the Comets a penalty kick. Natalie Flores took the kick and scored to give the Comets a 1-0 lead. Minutes later getting a foot in the ball was Madison Luck as she sent a long-range ball into the back of the net giving SAMS a 2-0 lead. SWRMS did not give up as they kept pressing and took attempts at the goal. With four minutes left on the clock, Tess Moody dribbled her way to the net and scored the third goal of the night. SAMS was able to hold the Cougars to pick up a 3-0 win.
