SWRMS comes out on top

Friday night the Cougars of SWRMS hosted the RMS Tigers for the championship game of the middle school baseball tournament. 

Leading things off for the Tigers with a walk as Hunter Atkins. SWRMS answered with back to back strikeouts. Chesney Welch drew a walk to added a second base runner for the Tigers. With two outs, Riley Edwards made contact for an RBI single to send Atkins home. RMS led 1-0 at the end of the top of the first. Right away in the bottom of the first, Easton Clapp picked up a base hit. Adam Cole sent the ball over the fence for a two-run home run. Keeping the bats rolling was Tyler Parks. RMS turned a double play followed by the final out. After one complete inning, SWRMS led 2-1. 

The Cougars started the top of the second strong as they forced the Tigers into a three up, three down inning. Beginning the bottom of the second was Hagen Auman with a solo hit. Grant Kirk drew a walk before the Tigers picked up out number one. With one out, Caleb McNeil gained a base hit. RMS got two strikeouts in a row to end the inning. SWRMS continued to lead 2-1 after two innings.

In the top of the third, the Cougars got two outs right away before giving up a base hit to JC Cruz. SWRMS finished the inning leaving a runner on base. Cole led things off in the top of the third with a solo hit. Slinging the ball over the fence for another two-run home run was Parks. The Cougars took a 4-1 lead. RMS finished the inning with three straight outs. After three complete innings, the Cougars led 4-1. 

With one out in the top of the fourth, the Cougars hit Edwards with a pitch giving the Tigers a free base. McNeil followed with a solo hit. The Cougars held the runners as they finished the inning. RMS came strong in the bottom of the inning forcing the Cougars to go one, two, three. The Cougars led 4-1 after four innings.

Following in the Tigers footsteps were the Cougars as they forced RMS into a three up three down inning. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Cole picked up a solo hit. The Tigers finished with two strikeouts and left Cole stranded. SWRMS continued to lead 4-1 after five innings.

In the top of the sixth, SWRMS forced the Tigers into a quick one, two, three inning. RMS gained their first out right away before giving up a walk to Auman. The Tigers held the runner at first as they got out of the inning.

SWRMS held on to their lead as they finished the top of the seventh with three straight outs. The Cougars defeated the Tigers 4-1.
